Shidoshi Dean Rostohar has been involved with various martial arts for the past 25 years and holds Dan rankings in a variety of arts. These arts range from Shotokan Karate (2 dan), Judo, Jujutsu, Aikido, Budokai, Tae Kwon Do, Wrestling Kick boxing, Muay Tai, and full contact karate. Never finding complete satisfaction with these arts he was constantly searching for something more complete. This he found in the art of Ninjutsu. What appealed to him more than any of the
previous arts which he had been exposed to was not only the physical art
but one who's basic philosophy was a way of life. In it he saw a
true warrior art, whereas the other arts which he studied before were
more "sport oriented", meaning that they had lost In 1986 a copy of the now classic book, "The invisible Assassins" came into Sensei Rostohars' possession. With it began a life long obsession. His first instructors were Dominik and Sasha Tesic who were the first to demonstrate the true art in Croatia. 1991 was the year that Croatia was invaded by the yugoslav army (serbia). Shidoshi Rostohar volunteered his services to the fledgling Croatian government. He was recruited into the Special Police Units (S.W.A.T.) where he remained in active duty until 1999, when (because of personal injuries sustained during the war in Croatia 1) he retired. For his sacrifice to his country he was decorated by the President of Croatia on five seperate occasions, and with high military honours on four of the occasions. Shidoshi Rostohar has had the opportunity to train in Japan and abroad on numerous occasions. In Japan he studies with Soke Hatsumi as well as with some of his top students. Students such as Shihan Fumio Manaka 10th dan (he trained with Sensei Manaka previous to his departure from Bujinkan, since he has started his own school), Shihan Yukio Noguchi 10th dan Chigyo Happo Hiken and Shihan Hiroshi Nagase 10th dan. Sensei Rostohar carries the title of Shidoshi and holds the legitimate rank of 10th dan. Sensei Rostohar passed the famed Sakki test in the Tokyo Budokan in 1996. For his hard work, dedication and loyalty to Bujinkan Ninpo Arts he received the rarely given Bujinkan Golden Dragon Medal from Soke Hatsumi. Training and seminars held at the Bujinkan
Seishin Dojo in Croatia are conducted in a completely traditional
manner. This is so students can "feel" the true art and
grow, not only as martial artists but also as human beings. Even
with his personal disability Shidoshi Rostohar still 1. Shidoshi Rostohar lost the lower part of his right leg to an anti-personnel explosive (land mine) while in action during the conflict in Croatia. Check Dean's Web Site! Click on the BUJINKAN CROATIA LINK!
